Tanning: Indoor vs. Outdoor
Minimize the Risk, Maximize the Benefit

About five percent of the light energy we receive from the sun is from ultraviolet (UV) light. There are two types of UV rays from sunlight responsible for tanning our skin: UVA, making up about 95%, and UVB making up the other 5%. The problem with stating these percentages is that while UVA rays (often called the “tanning” ray) are not blocked at all by the ozone layer, the amount of UVB (often poorly described as the “burning” ray) is blocked by the ozone layer, but how much is approximate and constantly changing according to many factors including the time of day, angle of the sun, weather conditions and time of year.

Today’s tanning units utilize a carefully controlled mix of both rays to help prevent indoor tanners from burning as easily or as quickly as they could by tanning outside, and also to create cosmetic tans that minimize the risk of skin damage.

Member of the Month

Congratulations to Elizabeth Rowan, our member of the month for July! For the short time that Elizabeth has been with us, she has demonstrated a great sense of humour, positive attitude, and commitment to her workout. Elizabeth will join our other Members of the Month in a draw for a free massage or reflexology treatment!

Vibration Training

Vibration training takes just 10 minutes per day, and some of its potential benefits include: improvements to strength, tone, power and flexibility of muscles; improved blood flow, blood oxygen levels, overall circulation and cardiovascular health; and improved mobility, balance and coordination. Vibration training can help wash lactic acid out of the body (the product of strenuous exercise that causes post workout soreness). Vibration training can also be beneficial in dealing with multiple symptoms of Parkinson’s such as tremors, balance, and postural instability.

How does it work? Mechanical vibrations produced by a base plate in the vibration trainer are transferred into your body stimulating muscle contractions with little to no stress on the joints and fibrous tissue, all with little effort (and pain) from you. Come in and try our Progression Vibration Trainer today!

Children’s Make-A-Wish Weekend

Please join us at the Blackstone Adventure Mini Golf and Family Park on Saturday, July 17! This very special event is being held to support the Children’s Make-A-Wish Foundation, a tremendously worthwhile cause for kids (and their families) faced with the harsh reality of potentially terminal illnesses. Help make a wish come true while enjoying fun activities for the whole family!
