MEMBER OF THE MONTH
Congratulations to Pearl Ryckman, who has been nominated as Member of the Month. As a recent member, and new to exercising in a gym, she put in a great effort for the month of June. Keep up the good work!
WAYS TO GET BACK ON TRACK TODAY
As promised in our June Newsletter, we have a handful of small things that will help you regain your momentum for healthy living:
- Try a new recipe. Cooking healthy foods can be fun and it never has to be bland.
- Eat a healthy breakfast.
- Aim for 8 cups of water each day and you’ll feel the difference.
- Read motivational articles -- seeing how others overcome similar struggles and obstacles can be a great source of motivation.
- Track your food. You’ll learn from it.
- Share your goals -- it will make you more accountable.
- Find a buddy to lend support, someone to listen or a mentor to give you ideas and encouragement.
- Create a picture collage depicting your goals and reasons why you want to get there.
- Ride your bike. Even a leisurely ride has benefits for your body and mind.
- Work in the yard. Gardening and yard work is a great way to add activity to your day.
- Take the stairs.
- Listen to inspirational music. Make a playlist of your favourites.
- Measure your portions.
- Eat a piece of fruit.
- Slow down during meals.
- Play a sport, a game, or use the playground equipment to bring the fun back into fitness.
- Learn something new. Sometimes simply reading an article about nutrition, fitness or health can change your mindset and get you back on track.
With healthy eating and exercising, as long as you’re consistently out-stepping your steps back, you’re ahead of the game. If you expect perfection (and many of us do), you’re setting yourself up for disappointment and guilt. You CAN get back on track today. Even if you’re moving slowly, you’ll be moving in the right direction!
MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE
If you meet somebody that became a true overnight success, you are meeting a very lucky person. For the rest of us, which includes the vast majority of the world’s population, this just isn’t going to happen. Not that you can’t be successful, because that surely is an attainable task. It just probably will happen with a lot of hard work, and probably several setbacks. But if you really want something, set it as a goal and go for it! Plan out what would be necessary for you to reach this objective, and start at it. If you build a solid foundation, setbacks won’t have a huge effect on you. Remember, 2 steps forward and 1 step back still is progress.
