MEMBER OF THE MONTH
You can always tell when Bill Leeming is here to workout, by the sound of his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. Bill has enthusiastically and consistently found his way back into the workout scene during the month of May, and has earned him the Member of the Month award for June.
GRADUATION AND MOTIVATION
Having just spent an evening witnessing my grandson and his classmates graduate, I couldn’t help but be motivated and energized into setting some new goals for myself. There were lots of speeches and reminders of the fact that these grade 12 students will now be entering a new phase in their lives. Themes for the evening were about friendships, dreams, goals and future possibilities. The evening was pumped full of enthusiasm, hopes, and aspirations for the future.
Oh, if only some of that vitality and energy could rub off on us somehow. Have we forgotten that great feeling of youthfulness? Instead, as grown-ups having parented and grand-parented these youths who will be leaving the nest, we feel tired, achy, and have allowed ourselves to become “old” in so many ways. Going to bed early just isn’t cutting it anymore; making bad food choices is only leaving us feeling sluggish.
Not long ago, you were energetic and determined to start your healthy lifestyle. Starting with enthusiasm and hope, you watched your food intake diligently, exercised like it was going out of style, and even avoided the temptation that seemed to lurk around every corner. You were confident that you were going to reach your goals once and for all!
Then tragedy struck! You “blew” your diet, you missed one workout and that turned into a whole week away from the gym. After that, your momentum to start over again was gone, and your gym bag hasn’t left the closet since.
Every time you misstep on your healthy journey, you have 2 choices: to keep walking backwards, which will surely take you even further away from your goals; or to accept your lack of perfection as normal and forgivable, and take not one, but two positive steps down the path that brings you closer to the future you want.
If you’re reading this, you might have been walking backwards for awhile. But instead of waiting for the next day, week, month or even year to overhaul your habits, start TODAY. And start small. Next month, we’ll give you a handful of small things that will help you regain your momentum for healthy living.
For starters, why not try a short workout. Even five minutes is better than nothing. Or, why not just take a short walk to the gym -- and who knows, you may even feel like picking up a few weights! Buy a membership Punch Card to get you motivated and started in the right direction!
Has anyone ever told you that you can do anything you want to do? Many people use this to encourage kids to set goals and stick to them, but as we get older we tend to forget this rule for ourselves. It is extremely important to realize that you can do anything you set out to do. Sometimes it takes hard work and extreme dedication, but anything is possible! So, what are you waiting for? Start building a foundation to reach success today!
CONGRATULATIONS NEW GRADS -- ALL THE BEST IN YOUR FUTURE ENDEAVORS!
